Feb. Monthly Motto

This Months motto from my calendar is : LOVE.
With Valentines on th 14th and it being what many know as the "Day of LOVE"...I thought it was quite obvious that this would be the motto for FEB.
I have been thinking about this motto just about everyday thus far in the month. I have been wondering if I am showing enough LOVe to people around me. I have tried to concentrate on showing love to different people in my family, intermediate or extended. I have found a new friendship in my family, that I might not of known about, if it wasn't for being more aware of my goal.
*HOnestly, though I really feel like I am failing at this one. There have been a few times this month that I have felt like I have shown love especially strong, but a few times...ain't cutting it.
(I know...ain't, ain't a word and you ain't suppose to say it, if you say ain't 5 times, you ain't goin to heaven)
So, for the past few nights I have been trying to focus on something outside the box. I started realizing that I have felt LOVE from others so much this month.
I have received it and am NOW just giving people credit for it. That's a shame!
My loving Husband, my amazing children, my parents and parent-in-laws, all my siblings...are all such a givers of LOVE. I am constantly surrounded by it and I LOVE it. So this months motto might of been a trick. For me...it's been about 2 types of love.
Giving and Receiving.
I should of started this post with a disclamier..."It your easily sickened by Love....don't read!"
LOVe ON!

The killer Tomatoes

My Sweet Shelby is such a doll face. I love listening to her talk her sweet baby talk. Sometimes it turns out quite funny..because I am not quite sure what she is saying to me. Just one small word can throw me off. For example like tonight...
Tonight I had put all the kids to bed and settled in for some reading. While reading I realized I wasn't alone. I turned my head to see my little Shelby standing there with tired eyes.
She said to me "Mom, I can't stop thinking about those scary tomatoes."
I respond "what do you mean?"
Shelby says "you know those ones in that movie, where you said that the people needed to hold on to be safe from the tomatoes".
I, again, say "still don't understand, tell me more so I can figure out what your talking about".
Shelby then says "you know the tomatoes that scared me because they go to Louisana and they were big and took that house down, I don't like tomatoes, they scare me."
LIGHTBULB!!! for me.
Let me go back for a minute.
A few days ago Luke and I were watching TV together and with Luke in control of the remote...the flippin begins. We watch something on one station for a bit and then flip to some other story for a while until we find just the most perfect 80's movie, like Karate kid or some ESPN Classic game or even better yet..one of the 20 Rocky's that have been made.
Well, while the surfin was in full force, he stopped on a classic, it was "Twister". Just then, little Shelby came in and asked what was happening on the TV. So, I figured I would tell her a little bit so she doesn't get scared from letting her imagination go and so she will know that it
wouldn't happen here.
So, tonight after she gave me a few more pieces of information. It dawned on me...those scary Tomatoes that she is talking about were the darn Tornado's in that "Twister" movie.
They scare me too!

2 add-on questions for the TAGGED

My Friend Ali was tagged by me and she added 2 addtional questions that I love.
So, I will answer them at the request of her.

If you could have any super power, what would you choose? I think teleporting would be great...but I think I would like to have the super power of Multiplicity. Being everywhere at once....yeah, that's the one I might take.
One of me Playing with the kids, while the other me's gets the dishes done, catches up on the photo albums, takes the well needed nap, gets dinner ready, balancing the checkbook, scrub the toilets and kissing my husband at the door when he comes home.

If you could meet anyone (dead or alive), who would it be? Ali, you said to not be a copy cat..but you picked the best one. Of course it would be Jesus. But if I had to choose someone else for the sake of NOT copying you...it would be Moses.

I'm Blue, da ba de da ba da

Take this test!
You're blue — the most soothing shade of the spectrum. The color of a clear summer sky or a deep, reflective ocean, blue has traditionally symbolized trust, solitude, and loyalty. Most likely a thoughtful person who values spending some time on your own, you'd rather connect deeply with a few people than have a bunch of slight acquaintances. Luckily, making close friends isn't that hard, since people are naturally attracted to you — they're soothed by your calming presence. Cool and collected, you rarely overreact. Instead, you think things through before coming to a decision. That level-headed, thoughtful approach to life is patently blue — and patently you!

My sister brought this website to my attention. I was a little hesitate at watching this, at first, only because I don't know much about Ben Stein. But after she explained a little a bit about what I might see, I had to click PLAY!
She also brought to my attention something that Pres. Hinckley wrote in his book "Standing for Something". She told me about where in the Epilogue Pres. Hinckley writes
"What we desperately need today on all fronts-in our homes and communities, in schoolrooms and boardrooms, and certainly throughout society at large-are leaders, men and women who are willing to stand for something. We need people who are honest; who are willing to stand up for decency, truth, integreity, morality, and law and order; who respond to their consciences even when it is unpopluar to do so-perhaps especially when it is unpopluar to do so.
It is important for leaders to learn to speak out in a way that is persuasive without being heavy-handed or offensive."
This link is of a upcoming movie trailer. I will be seeing this one! I think that it will be refreshing after all the Anti-Religion movies and movements that are out.

OH MY GRANDMA!

After I posted that slide show of the "glasses" I started thinking about my Grandma Allen. She was such a fun lady. I miss her badly! She could turn a miserable day into a "no bigger deal" day. She could make you feel total love, even when she might be a little upset at you.The reason the glasses brought back memories was a story I once heard from my mother. And then after that story came to my mind...I couldn't stop taking a journey down memory lane. I might start rattling on and on...but these are some of those times I remember about Gram.

Once a upon a time Grandma and Grandpa headed off to DI (desert industries) for their normal walk through to find treasures day. Grandpa didn't feel up to going in...but that never stopped Gram, so off she went. She headed towards a box of glasses and found many to her liking. Especially this one pair. These glasses that she found were amazing! They fit her perfectly, they seemed to of been made just for her. She tried on a few more pair, but couldn't resist the glasses that were "for her". After listening to the call "buy me" she headed up to check out only realized that they weren't marked with a price. She, of course, bargined with the lady to give them to her for one dollar, because the rest were marked the same. I imagine she walked out of DI with her shoulders held back and her head up high. The thought of something so perfect for only a buck. Once she reached the car, she pulled them out to show off her find. While presenting them to Grandpa, like a proud mother might do with their first born, she filled him in on the etails of her red light special.

Grandma: "Look Gerald, I found the most perfect glasses for just a dollar. They are even the right perscription"

As she hands them over for a closer observation. This is what I heard his response was:

Grandpa: "Hell Marva, you went off and bought your own glasses".

(When she went in she was wearing glasses. While inside trying on the other glasses she must of set hers down and not realized it. When low and behold, she finally came acrossed her most perfect glasses that were made, especially for her. She coddled them, loved them, admired them and then bought them for a dollar.)

My Grandma was always such the Bargin hunter. She loved to go to Arby's for their 5 for $5 specials. She would bring over about 10 or more sandwiches, because they were on sale. Man, that's where I get it.

My mom told me of a story about my Grandmagoing into a store to find all of their snow boots on sale. She bought them all....with the thought of all of us kids having something to wear when we come to visit her during the winter. The only problem was..most of them were size 13 or so. It's the dad gum thought that counts, I would say.

Something else I remember about my Grandma was her hands. They were always always soft, tan and her nails were painted. Let me explain my Grandma...she was the hardest working farmers wife you could meet. Her hands were strong and constantly busy helping someone with a fishing line, making dinner, tying ice skates, rappin you on the head, milking the cows or whistling at the refs. I loved her hands.

Another fun memory of her is when me and my mother escorted her to The Price is Right. It was a life long dream to go and whistle at ol' Bob Barker. She was the hit of the day. The people LOVED her. She didn't get picked to be a contestant, but because we were in line at 4am we got seats right up front. What a dream for her. She had Bobby all to herself, it seemed.

He would asked her questions about where she was from and what she liked. I can't remember how it got to this point, but I distinctly remember her howling like a coyote at him.

OH...I loved it! She had a special shirt made up for herself, but left it at home. So, of course we had to make a few of our own. I didn't realize how our shirts could of been misrepresenting, until after the taping. OOPS!

Let me explain:
She is the Worlds greatest fan. She would make sure to attend just about every one of her grandkids ball games. When attending one of our games she would yell a phrase that she became known for. It was: "down the middle boys" while we were shooting a foul shot. Back to the price is right.
So, us being the innocent woman that were are...thought we would write that on a shirt for her. UM...it actually read "Come on down the middle" with an arrow that wasn't to tasteful place (on accident). And then mine wasn't any better. It read: "for a good time, pick my Granny". WHat the Heck! No wonder we didn't get picked. Old Bobby probably thought we were a bunch of wild woman trying to pick up on his leathery self. Well, it was fun anyhow!
MY list can go on and on..but I won't. I might have to save it for another day.

Isn't it Ironic, don't you think. a little to Ironic, Yeah I really do think.

I received a phone call from my friend the other day. The same friend that gave me a gift card to the local "Danny's family Carwash" Yes, she is still a friend, even after the giftcard....it was actually an inside joke....nice one as well. Anyhow, we were talking and she asked if I had used them yet. I made this comment that made me lift my eyebrow in mid sentence.
"My car is to dirty, to have it cleaned...I need to muck it out before I take it in".
I started thinking and talking to my sister about the things that we do that are alittle to Ironic or maybe I should say Hypocritical! Here is a little list..maybe those reading could add a few of their own.
-screaming at your children to "STOP SCREAMING!"
-giving a little swat on the rear only to teach them to Not HIT.
-cleaning your car before you take it to the car wash
-cleaning your house before the housekeeper comes.
-the day you mop your children help themselves to the lemonade...yikes!
-get after your children to clean their rooms, only to see your room has been hit by a tornado.
-you been looking to buy your favorite item at Joann's...do it... only to receive the 50% coupon the next day.
and how can I forget
-it's like rain on your wedding day
-a free ride when you've already paid
I might of used the last too from a little song..but hey....isn't it IRONIC, don't you think?
