The life of a mellow!

During our Christmas break, my parent-in-laws rented a cabin for the entire family to spend Christmas in.

One time only did boredom show it's ugly head, and it was only for a brief moment.

And here is what happened:

I was standing in the kitchen having a conversation with my Sis and I noticed this lonely bag of mini marshmallow's. I was thinking about the life of a mellow and how they spend their lifespan either in a plastic bag stuck to their neighbor or in a boiling cup of liquid. So I thought I would spice it up a little. And then one jumped up my nose and then another. Before I knew it Ruby had two in her nose. We looked at each other and then laughter took over. We could not stop laughing! I know it's ridiculous, but daang, it's an instant sugar rush.

And I am sure that exhaustion had something to do with all of this.

Fun times!

IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE MY LAST CONFESSION

I have a little confession that has been haunting me for some time. Right before Christmas there came a little package to my door step. It was a pretty little bag with a ribbon cinched tight around the top. Like it was trying to keep something from escaping. I took a little peek inside to find a bag full of wonderful smelling chex mix. I closed that bag up real tight hoping that it would not escape into my mouth. But as all chex mix does...a little bit got loose. It found it's way straight into my boca. Now I forgot an important part of this confession. The time on the kitchen clock struck about 8 am. After realizing the time of day and weighing my choices I decided....

1) The bag had, roughly, 2 cups in it...just about the same amount of cereal that I eat in the morning...give or take.

2) The bag had Chex in it....just about the same kind of cereal that I eat in the morn...give or take.

So the choice was clear...eat the entire bag of chex mix for a delicious and healthy breakfast.
I had never had this type of mix before. It was delicious!
I am ashamed to say, I even turned the bag upside down and put the corner in my mouth to get the crumbs from the bottom. I can only imagine what this looked like to one of my kids that was at my knees begging for a nibble.
Pretty dang, hilarious, I can guess.
I would like to keep the person that is responsible for this act anonymous....but I can't!
It's all Shelly Linfords fault! By the way...Thank you, I need the recipe for that dad-gum stuff.

Oh the good ol' days!

I was doing a little stocking stuffer shopping the other day at the local Wal-Mart fall apart store, just down the road. I went down the "Holiday Aisle" were all the fun candy items are kept and I was taken back to my childhood. I got so homesick or young sick I just about cried. I saw cans of candy that my Grandma use to have. You know the kind that are kept in a cylinder can. The candy inside is hard and some of them have "jelly" or some kind of something inside. It's the old fashioned candy. They also had Ribbon Candy on the shelf, one of my Grandma's favorites. Oh, and the huge boxes of cheap chocolates. I remember so many Christmas's going to my Grandma's house and seeing the floor covered in wrapping paper and boxes of chocolates placed all over the front room. Our family was one of the few families that didn't live in the same town as my Grandparents. So by the time we got there, the good peanut clusters or caramel's were already picked through. You could bet that there were plenty orange, cherry, lemon or some creme filled chocolate. And most of those had been poked or bitten into and left for dead. You either ate the half ones or maybe, just maybe a good one might of got over looked and you would find it. I remember finding one, a good one, and looking about the room to see if it was a joke or if anyone else saw what I had found. It was like I had the golden ticket!

It was like Mr. Forrest Gump said

"you neva know what cha gonna get"

While I was standing in this candy aisle, I started filling my basket full of stuff. Things that I didn't need or really think that I wanted....but it kept piling up. I found myself smiling, while I was standing there all by myself. It was kind-of funny. Well, I finally walked away and found Luke. When he saw me, he did the normal "do we need that". (NOt in a bad way, but you should of seen my stash) I found myself putting back a few things, like the huge box of chocolates. I knew that I didn't want to eat them or that we would even come close to finishing them. So, I put them back. But, tonight I laying next to my girls and was thinking about my Grandma, who by the way lived for Christmas. I was thinking about the fact that I remember those things and they meant a lot to me as a child and obviously as an adult. So...I am going back to that store and I am buying a box of cheap chocolates in memory of my Grandma. I know that sounds crazy or silly. But Christmas was a huge family affair at my Grandparents house. It was hot chocolate and chili on the bank of the pond while we ice-skated, it was seeing my Grandma's charlie Brown tree decorated beautifully. It was finding your name written on a white festive bank envelope hiding on the tree, with a $2 dollar bill in it. It was cinnamon toast and oranges at the table. Oh, the list could go on and on. The story doesn't end there. Two years ago, I received a call on Christmas morning that my Grandma had passed away. We were all sad to have her out of our reach, for now, but so happy for her to be reunited with Grandpa. So many of us kind-of giggle to each other, that she got the last laugh, going home on Christmas day. Her favorite day of the year! Oh, how I miss her. She was a sweet hear of a woman and beyond hilarious! One, day I will write the story about when me and my mom took her to see Bob Barker at the Price is Right.

Pretty great story!

Bano Tales!

I love this story and have been contemplating if I should write it. I decided I had better, someone might get a kick out of it.

So over Thanksgiving break we traveled to Utah via Flagstaff. We always stop in Flag for a potty break and what we call "stretch your bones" time. I took the girls into the bathroom to let them do their business. While we were in there I noticed that one of the two toilets was missing it's flusher. You know the toilets that have the flusher in the middle of the tank and you push the silver circle down and tah dah, it's a twister? I realized that if you stuck your fingers down the hole in the middle of the tank you could push a button way down in it and it would flush. **Don't worry, there was no water involved in the process. **

The girls were getting washed up and a more "seasoned" woman took our stall. As she did this I noticed my little Carter come barreling in the bathroom announcing that he had to go "pee pee poo poo". Once he was finished I heard this voice over the stall walls. I realized that it was the lady that was in with the "troubled toilet". I could hear her ask me "how did you flush this toilet?" I wasn't sure if she was talking to me, so I asked her to repeat it. As I finished washing Carter's hand., again, she repeated "how did you do this?". As I started explaining that you have to put your fingers down the hole and push down", my son had a light come on above his head. He was sure he knew how to help, so he very loudly told her "you put your fingers on your pee pee, push down and go pee". When the lady couldn't hear me, he again said very loudly. "Put your fingers on your pee pee, push down and go pee". He thought she was having a difficult time figuring out the correct way to go to the bathroom. It was funny seeing this face and knowing that he had just help an old woman with something he had just recently learned himself. I started laughing so hard, I had to leave the bathroom. I sure hope that lady figured it out! I know"our" instructions were a little confusing. OOops!

Birthday pics

It's a big 5 year old!

Happy Birthday My Shelby Kenya!

I can’t believe that my sweetheart Shelba is 5 years old, today! We had a little tea party/lunch party yesterday with a few of her friends. We ate lunch, cake, ice cream then we painted fingernails. The girls were all so cute. While eating lunch, I would ask them all to answer a few questions. One question was “if you were Santa’s special elf, what present would you bring your mom and dad for Christmas?” Little Kylie said she would bring her mom an apron that read “kiss the cook” . And for her dad she said “I would bring my dad a jeep, he is just dying to get a jeep”. She’s funny! Then her sister, of course just like every little sister, said the very same thing. Lainie said she was going to bring me a suburban. Nice! My sweet Shelby said that was going to bring me a “hug”. That’s what I am talking about. She is a doll face! Full of such a funny sense of humor. We love to just watch her and listen to the funny little things that she comes up with.

On Sunday we had a special Family dinner with 2 guests, Mimi and Papa. Mimi made a special cake for Shelby and brought her a diary, that she colored in all night.

Love you MUCHO Shelb
